DAVIDSON RETURNS TO FORMULA 1

Formula 1 teams are back in Europe and beginning preparations for next weekend’s French Grand Prix on the first day of Barcelona testing on Thursday.
Four days on from the dramatic Canadian race, in which the balance of power in the title race shifted towards BMW and Robert Kubica, most squads are hitting the track at the perennial Spanish testing venue for the first of three days of action.
And with the forthcoming race at Magny-Cours, and the next round at Silverstone, marking a return to tracks with fast, sweeping corners, teams will be recalibrating their cars to suit the Circuit de Catalunya's similar characteristics.
The opening day marked a surprise return to track action for Super Aguri refugee Anthony Davidson in the Honda RA108 – the first time he has sat in an F1 car since the Japanese manufacturer’s former B squad’s demise last month.

SCHUMACHER HAS A QUIET WORD WITH SATO

I thought it was funny this picture. Remembering the day Takuma Sato, then with BAR-Honda, crashed at the back of Schumacher !During a Safety Car! Michael "The Kaiser" got out of the car faster that lighting and shouted at him:

"Are you fucking insane? What's wrong with you?"
and slapped his helmet in anger. It was hilarious.

Understanding the sport:

BRAKES: When it comes to the business of slowing down, Formula One cars are surprisingly closely related to their road-going cousins. Indeed as ABS anti-skid systems have been banned from Formula One racing, most modern road cars can lay claim to having considerably cleverer retardation. The principle of braking is simple: slowing an object by removing kinetic energy from it. Formula One cars have disc brakes (like most road-cars) with rotating discs (attached to the wheels) being squeezed between two brake pads by the action of a hydraulic calliper. This turns a car's momentum into large amounts of heat and light - note the way Formula One brake discs glow yellow hot. This is the brake of the Ferrari in Bahrein 2008.

AERODINAMICS: A modern Formula One car has almost as much in common with a jet fighter as it does with an ordinary road car. Aerodynamics have become key to success in the sport and teams spend tens of millions of dollars on research and development in the field each year.
